The Year of You, A Women’s Wellness Retreat


The Women’s Wellness Weekend Seminars were created as a result of over 25 years of Dr. Russell’s experience working with women. They include the tools and educational material she has used over and over again to help women heal and develop happier, healthier lives.

In two and a half days, we will learn how to care for ourselves with the same love and concern we offer to others. For most women, self-care is not intuitive and is often viewed as selfish. Through a combination of educational information, skill building exercises, and self-reflection worksheets and discussions, participants will learn the importance of self-care for their physical health and regulating emotions in order to become and stay healthy. Sharing personal information is optional. Confidentiality will be discussed, with an expectation that any information shared will be kept within the group.


While women often mistake self-care as “selfish”, self-care is essential in successfully regulating emotions and staying healthy.

Seminars:
OCT 3rd – 6th 2019


Seminar one addresses what mental health is and why it is important to care for. Too often, women are juggling multiple responsibilities and become overwhelmed without enough social support, leaving them at risk of becoming sick (physically and mentally). This seminar will explain the ways our bodies signal stress and teach calming skills necessary to decrease anxiety and improve mood.
Seminar three is always a favorite…..one of the most important components to maintaining a healthy physical and emotional body….how to feel good about oneself. Information will be provided to help explain why this is difficult for most women and how to begin to change this. We will begin to identify how to shift from worrying about what others think or feel about you, to how YOU feel about you. Understanding how your learning history from parents and peers while growing up affects self-worth will be explained, as will how to heal from negative messages.
Seminar four focuses on how to move from simply surviving to how to begin thriving in order to be happier and have a healthier, more balanced life. Building on information from seminar three, we will identify when you are making choices because of what others want from you instead of listening to what you want to do. Of course, this will be addressed with an understanding that we all have to do things we don’t want, but will help shed light on when we are doing this unnecessarily. In order to pursue more of what you want, time will be spent on how to manage uncomfortable feelings that can occur when others don’t like your choices. Self-reflection time will be provided to understand negative coping behaviors that often occur when we are overwhelmed with intense emotions and how to respond with healthier choices. Finally, the importance of setting boundaries and how to do so will be discussed.
In the last seminar, participants will review and incorporate information from prior self-reflection worksheets to create a personalized plan on how to begin to thrive with a healthy emotional system. There will be an opportunity to share ideas before finalizing and presenting your plans on how to move forward to THRIVE! My desire for all participants is you leave with more of an ability to value and care for yourself so you can more fully enjoy your live and be more present to those you love!!
